December 6, 2025 Advent Week Two

THE ACCLAMATION (standing together)
Surely the Lord is coming soon.
Amen. Come Lord Jesus!

THE COLLECT FOR PURITY
Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid:
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY (standing together)
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us pray.
Blessed Lord, who caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and the comfort of your holy Word we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH
(standing together)
Blessed are you, Lord, God of our ancestors: to you be praise and glory for ever. You called the patriarchs to live by the light of faith and to journey in the hope of your promised fulfillment. May we be obedient to your call and be ready and watchful to receive your Christ, a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; for you are our light and our salvation.
Blessed be God for ever.

PREPARING THE MANGER:
(standing together)
Making space to welcome the baby Jesus. Second Sunday: Peace
THE MAGNIFICAT | ANIMALS ARE BROUGHT TO THE MANGER
Last week evergreen branches were brought to the manger, a reminder that “all creation yearns” for Jesus’ new world to be fully established. This week we move a step closer, and farm animals come to await him.
His mercy is for those who fear him
    from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
Amen.

THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SIN
Let us confess our sins and those things that prevent our being filled with love for God and our neighbors:
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE PEACE  (standing together)
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And with your spirit.
(Let’s greet one another with a sign of peace)

TRINITY SATURDAY SURVEYS FORM HERE

“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
-The Peace of Wild Things, Wendell Berry

Advent Retreat

In the Anglican tradition, during the four weeks leading up to Christmas, we look at the two times Christ comes to earth: when He is born and when he returns at the Second Coming. At this Advent retreat, we'll pause to look more deeply at our readiness both to receive the light of Christ and also somehow to be His light in the world

Come spend a day apart from the busyness of the season:

Saturday, December 13 from 9:00am to 2pm.

The Lord’s Prayer and (pre-consecrated) elements of Holy Eucharist
The elements are brought forward.
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us pray.

Our Father in heaven,
your Name be hallowed,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
as in heaven, also on earth.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
(Matthew 6:9–13)

THE DISTRIBUTION

THE POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

ADVENT POEM:
The Journey to Bethlehem (by Martha Marchina)
Oh mindful Virgin, why this rush with your
Good spouse to Bethlehem to pay this due?
That holy babe you’re bringing forth so soon
Will square the debts of Earth, and Heaven too.

THE BLESSING

May God himself, the God of peace, make you perfect, whole, and holy, and keep you safe and blameless, in spirit, soul and body, for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be with you now and remain with you forever.
Amen!

Alleluia, Alleluia. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God, Alleluia, Alleluia

May the Peace of God be with you today

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We all live on Indigenous land. We would like to acknowledge the Massachusett Tribe: the tribe of Indigenous peoples from whom the Colony, Province, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts have taken their name. We would like to pay our respect to the ancestral bloodline of the Massachusett Tribe and their descendants who still inhabit historical Massachusett Tribe territories to this day.

We are grateful to Thomas Green, VP of the Massachusett Tribe, for providing this paragraph. https://massachusetttribe.org/the-tribe

Saturday Evening Vigils
The practice of holding vigils on Saturday evening has roots in ancient Christian traditions, originally as the solemn Great Vigil of Easter, which was a night-long watch that celebrated the resurrection of Christ and was the first celebration of Easter. Over time, the vigil shifted to Saturday morning in some traditions, primarily due to fasting rules, but was restored to the evening in the mid-20th century, and Saturday evening Mass for Sunday obligations became a common practice in the 1970s

*Eucharist Adoration moment:

This is an adaptation of a spiritual practice known as Eucharistic Adoration, normally practiced in the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and in some Anglican expressions.
