Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’
But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Together we pray as the thief on the cross:
Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
We pray with the Scriptures, with the way of the kingdom and the spirit that Jesus taught:
Intercessor:
Lord Jesus, we empty ourselves of our selfish thoughts, selfish desires, and self importance; we are poor in spirit, waiting for you to fill us. Make the greatest longing of our hearts your Kingdom.
Lord, bless those who are poor in spirit
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Lord Jesus, we mourn for the injustices and griefs of this world; the many wounded and vulnerable people. We mourn over our own complicity and laxity. Comfort the sick, the poor, and the hurting. Comfort them with your presence and your kind heart; comfort all those in need.
Lord, bless all those who mourn,
For they will be comforted
Lord Jesus, we long to be humble and ready to serve; respectful and honoring of your creation, living in symphony with all that you have made. Bless your earth, our home by your good gift, and let us learn to live in your rhythms.
Lord, bless those who are meek:
For they will inherit the earth.
Lord Jesus, many in our world today are hungry and thirsty; many are mistreated and abused and long for justice. Restore our hearts with the knowledge that the last will be first and the first put last.
Lord, bless those who hunger and thirst for justice and righteousness
For they will be satisfied
Lord Jesus, mercy is rare in this time, even mocked. You have shown mercy to us and to all, the righteous and the unrighteous. Break the arrogant spirits of the proud and let mercy be renewed.
Lord, bless the merciful,
For they will obtain mercy
Lord Jesus, truth is lost and greed is common. Our own hearts are easily distracted and beguiled. Help us to keep our hearts and minds fixed on those things that are just, pure, good, beautiful, true, noble, and worthy of praise,
Lord, bless the pure of heart,
For they shall see God
Lord Jesus, we, like many, find it easy to be indignant. We wonder how the impasses of our moment will be resolved. Help us to be peacemakers, that we would be known as your children.
Lord, bless the peacemakers
For they will be called the children of God
Lord Jesus, many in this world are injured or even killed for your sake. Some would use your name as a justification to commit harm. But you went towards persecution; you walked humbly even to the Cross, refusing to defend yourself and forgiving your assailants.
Lord, bless those who are persecuted for the sake of goodness and righteousness,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Celebrant:
We have been promised that all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be well. And the bad things shall be undone, and the world shall be made whole and beautiful and full. And the glory of God shall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

THE NICENE CREED (standing together)
Let’s stand and recall together the narrative summary of God’s love story:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. Let's confess our sins and those things that prevent our being filled with love for God and our neighbors:
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION
(kneeling as you’re able or sitting)
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son Jesus Christ into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the Cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.
On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy Sacrament, and be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us and we in him. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us with all your saints into the joy of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

Lord Jesus, truly present in the Holy Sacrament: come spiritually into my heart and give me yourself, for I love you above all else, and I desire to be united with you within my soul.

This is an adaptation of a spiritual practice known as Eucharistic Adoration, normally practiced in the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and in some Anglican expressions.
