Kingdom of the Spirit
Saturday July 4, 2026
“The first precondition of being called a spiritual leader is to perceive and feel the falsehood that is prevailing in society, and then to dedicate one’s life to a struggle against that falsehood. If one tolerates the falsehood and resigns oneself to it, one can never become a prophet. If one cannot rise above material life, one cannot even become a citizen in the Kingdom of the Spirit, far less a leader of others.”
~Vladimir Solovyov, Eulogy of Fyodor Dostoevsky, 1881
Dear friends,
Another short excerpt from the new book, The Lord’s Prayer is Manifesto - The Three Dimensions of Jesus’s Sacred Revolution.
“Because heaven, after all, occurs when God's name is honored, when God's kingdom is realized, and when God's will is fully lived. That is heaven. What else could it be? And Jesus, of course, does not leave us to this great challenge alone, as honoring of us as it is. Jesus gives us the pairing of the exaltations of the upper half of the Prayer with living the way of Jesus in the lower half of the Prayer. This means that when we trust God for our daily bread, we are living God's will. When we forgive, we are making space for God's kingdom. When we go forward in the way of Jesus with courage, we are honoring God's name…”

The Anglican Way
Saturday July 4, 2026
what I had encountered was not so much denomination as a way of following Jesus, one whose strength is that it brings many things together. What, I wondered, was the glue, or the energy at the center, that united them all and kept them in balance?
There was something there that was deeply compelling…
A way of following Jesus that centers Jesus, himself, as God with us in all that we face and all that we are. This is the spirituality that is the heart core of Trinity and the source of our hope and joy.
Dear friends,
Thank you all who came out to the book release in Beverly Farms last Saturday. It was inspiring to see so many from our community together, having conversations and enjoying a lovely bookstore. It really means a lot to me to have your support on this book that has been years in the works, so thank you! THE ANGLICAN WAY
I’ve been doing some reflecting lately on why we at Trinity are Anglican. This all got me remembering how I came to this way of following Jesus.
While I was in seminary, trying to sort out the denomination question, I went to a conference about the book of Revelation at a an Anglican theological college at Oxford. What I found there was something I could not resist: a community deeply and thoughtfully studying the Scriptures, in prayer for the world and its pain, spreading the story of Jesus, diverse and international, all of it gathered around the table of Eucharist.
In this context the book of Revelation suddenly came alive: I realized with a shock that the earliest followers of Jesus actually understood it — that it was coded, symbolic language speaking to them about the very real challenges they were facing, and about God with them through them all. It gave them hope. It spoke of God’s kingdom being manifest in all the layers and orderings of life now, in the present, through the self-giving love of God and the leading of Jesus’s Spirit into God’s way — a limited and imperfect but nonetheless real foreshadowing of God’s made-whole creation, heaven and earth in synthesis and made whole, God’s glory in and on and over all, as the waters over cover the seas…
I journaled on the flight back, simply giving thanks to God that this tradition lived — to that point I had known it only as CS Lewis and Westminster Abbey. But once I got home to the States, I could not let it go; I began to look for a path to connect. I tried to work something out with the mother church, the Church of England, but that was not a real option from this side of the pond.
But then I began to reflect; what I had encountered was not so much denomination as a way of following Jesus, one whose strength is that it brings many things together. What, I wondered, was the glue, or the energy at the center, that united them all and kept them in balance? There was something there that was deeply compelling but that escaped easy definition.
Someone reminded me of Richard Foster’s book on spirituality, in which he named the strength of various traditions: the Anglican way, he said, had as its energizing core an emphasis on Jesus’s incarnation. Of course: therefore all these different good things hold together in balance, touching all aspects of being human.
Incarnation takes us into the difficult areas of life and into all its categories, for God is with us. It means that our spiritual lives are real and are powered from the beyond but are also organic and that spiritual power is manifest in the midst of created reality, with joy. In essence, it means God’s love, embodied. Therefore it is also the hope of redemption and the proof God is in it to bring a future and a hope.
A way of following Jesus that centers Jesus, himself, as God with us in all that we face and all that we are. This is the spirituality that is the heart core of Trinity and the source of our hope and joy.
Peace,
Tim+

Pilgrimage of the Ships
Saturday June 20, 2026
Her parents, anxious for her well-being, intervened and took her to the coast of Portugal for a rest. Ever the independent spirit, she diverted from the normal tourist sites and instead found her own way, alone, to a little fishing village between Porto and Viana do Castelo. It was there she was, for the first time, stung to the heart by the beauty of prayer.
One night in her time there, under the moonlight, she observed the procession for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The fishermen's wives were making a candle-lit pilgrimage of the ships to pray over and bless them, singing what she described as "ancient hymns of a heart-rending sadness." Moved to her core, she had an insight: "Christianity is preeminently the religion of slaves." It was the first seed of the gospel sown deep into the fertile soil of her soul.

As in Heaven, Also on Earth
Saturday June 20, 2026
Dear friends,
“As in heaven, also on earth” is a brief statement of all things being well, made whole, complete and contented. Beyond contented, infused with joy and wonder. Life as it should be.
Living this into being is our core calling as human beings; it is the center line of the whole of Jesus’s amazing teaching in the Sermon on Mount — the only sermon we have of Jesus’s — and the center, hinge line of the one Prayer we have from Jesus.
I realize it troubled me for decades that the Lord’s Prayer was not a core aspect of my spirituality yet I follow Jesus: that is odd; it does not add up. I finally read how Simone Weil was met by Jesus through the Prayer, and that led me down a path such that it all finally began to click.
In the one Prayer he gave us, Jesus is giving us a simple three-dimension spirituality for all of life, every- and any-thing we face. It is, of course, his own spirituality; it is his giving us practical ways to live heaven on earth.
When I was in London last month, at the amazing and challenging MOTH Festival of Ideas, I met a genius, gentle, creative new friend, who lives on a farm just outside Oxford and has recently founded a brilliant non-profit, I Stand Beside
Jean-Paul shared with me how since his teen years he has been fascinated by the person of Jesus as presented in Matthew 5-7 (the Sermon on the Mount) but how as a young person he became disappointed by church and left. These stories grieve me deeply; yesterday I mailed Jean-Paul a copy of my new book: The Lord’s Prayer is Manifesto: The Three Dimensions of Jesus’s Sacred Revolution.

UPDATE FROM JENNIFER JUKANOVICH
(In case you missed it)
Last week we were asked to meditate on Rublev’s Trinity. As I gazed on the very familiar painting, it was the first time I noticed the window in the table and I heard the words, “Come and see.” So, when Canon Tim asked me to share about my recent trip to Kenya, I wanted to invite you to “come and see” where I stood last month, in the largest landfill in all of East Africa.
I serve as the Executive Director of the Kijabe Children’s Educational Fund, which was founded by a college mentor of mine and a group of his friends who wanted to nourish and educate God’s children in Kenya, starting with one school near Kijabe. Twenty years later this volunteer-led organization now provides a hope and a future for 4,000 children and youth in the slums of greater Nairobi, by strengthen the capacity of nine Kenyan-founded schools to ensure every student receives a daily meal, quality education, Christian character formation and postsecondary opportunities. They decided it was time to hire an executive director, so it is my privilege to serve in that capacity.
In May, we ventured into a new area, the Dandora landfill. We prayed for and found a “man of peace,” Andrew, a former journalist who witnessed children as young as three sorting trash, when they should have been in school. He began rescuing them and started the Red Hill Education Center near the top of the landfill. In the midst of the trash and sewage, he provided safety from the predators surrounding them. The school now serves 270 students in grades prek-9 and they are desperately seeking to relocate off the hill.
The weight of our new partnership felt heavy. The evil in the area felt tangible. Having volunteered in many orphanages and as an adoptive mom, I am highly attentive to the impacts of trauma on behavior and I witnessed that trauma first-hand in our visit. How could we make a long-term difference in these children’s lives?
We began working with Andrew to ensure the children are fed. Since February, the children at Red Hill now receive a daily meal of porridge and lunch. The children whom I had seen exhausted and hungry in February were now energetic. Teachers said the students’ attentiveness in the classrooms were night and day, all because the kids received a meal that only costs .45 a day – only $120 a day to feed breakfast and lunch to 270 children. We helped the teachers receive new curriculum, a few computers and learning materials. And Andrew, the man of peace, who said he felt so alone for the last 15 years, now knows he has a partner in his ministry.

Reconciled to God, to Nature, and to Themselves
Saturday June 13, 2026
"It is perhaps the chief suggestion of this book that St. Francis walked the world like the Pardon of God. I mean that his appearance marked the moment when people could be reconciled not only to God but to nature and, most difficult of all, to themselves."

THIS SATURDAY - TRINITY!
Ascension, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday are inextricably linked as a single continuous narrative of God revealing Himself to humanity. They form a chronological and theological progression: Christ returns to Heaven, the Holy Spirit empowers the Church, and together they reveal the triune nature of God. These 3 weeks of services are quite special in the church calendar. During the past two weeks we celebrated the Ascension, Pentecost, and this week is Trinity. We hope you can join us.
“The Trinity is precisely a way of recognizing and celebrating the fact that the human being Jesus of Nazareth as distinct from while still identified with God the Father, on the one hand (he didn't just "go back to being God again" after his earthly one), and the Spirit, on the other hand (the Jesus who is near us and with us by the Spirit remains the Jesus who is other than us).”
― N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church

The World is Full of Resurrections
Friday May 15, 2026
I still believe in Resurrection -
Not only in the grave’s undoing, but in the green return of Spring,
in the Earth’s insistence on life.
I see it in the turning soil, the seeds that split in darkness,
the trees that bloom though no one asks them to.
I believe in what rises after loss,
in the morning after sorrow,
in the old rhythms that outlast our forgetting.
The world is full of resurrections.
It is enough, sometimes, to plant and wait,
trusting that life will come again in its own time.
- David Gate
Dear friends,
Lots happening in the weeks ahead! We hope you can join us. Be sure to get the summer schedule on your calendars!

JESUS WAS A MIGRANT - MOVIE and DISCUSSION, THIS SATURDAY MAY 16 FOLLOWING SERVICE at 545pm
We are very pleased that some of our Trinity families are coordinating to share this special 30 minute documentary.
From author Jemar Tisby, the film highlights many faith based perspectives for welcoming immigrants.
The film centers on the question: "If Jesus was a migrant, why are so many of his followers celebrating turning them away?"
As you know from our sermons and our work amidst our neighborhoods and communities, we believe this is an important issue and we are pleased to continue this discussion. We expect to start around 5:45pm following our service in the Parlor room.

CONTINUING OUR PRAYER FOR PEACE
We haven’t forgotten the many past weeks of news that continue to be deeply troubling, and also we remember and take heart because we are living in the time of God’s work especially during this Easter Tide season.
We continue to be very aware of the unrest in many of our hearts. There are still many in our own community, and in our families have shared how they’ve felt in the light of recent events in Minnesota, Texas, California, and now Maine, and even Boston, Portland, Chicago and more.
We are continuing to pray for and stand with our neighbors in every city and every country.
Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed: Kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all people the true love of peace, and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility your kingdom may go forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
If you or your family need prayer or would like to talk with any of our clergy, please reach out to us directly.
NURSERY HELP!
Thanks to so many of you for stepping up! We continue to need more help. 🙏
One of the things we have talked about in recent Saturday services is our growing and growing nursery, and how wonderfully challenged we are there because of the great multitude of infants and littles that we have. We need more leaders and servers for nursery especially right now. We are delighted to be able to share that Shana has agreed to be a nursery leader! She is going to be great! So if you feel the heart-tug there, let us know!

HELPING OUR COMMUNITY
Many of our friends and neighbors are facing challenging times due to the shutdown of the U.S. Government and the administration refusing to release USDA funding for the SNAP/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This November, nearly one million people in Massachusetts alone will face food insecurity. Among them are the most vulnerable in our community - in Massachusetts alone, 32% of SNAP beneficiaries are children, 31% are people with disabilities, and 26% are seniors. Many of you have asked how we can help, please visit our Missions Page to find out how to donate and how to get involved in community meals in our area.
I Shall Rise Again
Friday May 8, 2026
Resurgam
From depth to height, from height to loftier height,
The climber sets his foot and sets his face,
Tracks lingering sunbeams to their halting-place,
And counts the last pulsations of the light.
Strenuous thro' day and unsurprised by night
He runs a race with Time, and wins the race,
Emptied and stripped of all save only Grace,
Will, Love, - a threefold panoply of might.
Darkness descends for light he toiled to seek;
He stumbles on the darkened mountain-head,
Left breathless in the unbreathable thin air,
Made freeman of the living and the dead, -
He wots not he has topped the topmost peak,
But the returning sun will find him there.
-Christina Rossetti
“Resurgam” is Latin for “I shall rise again”; in this poem Rossetti uses mountain hiking and climbing as a kind of analogy to death and resurrection. “Wots” is an older word meaning “to know”.
Dear friends,
Lots happening in the weeks ahead! We hope you can join us.
Peace,

Every Ray of God’s Light
Thursday April 30, 2026
"Love God’s entire creation, as a whole and every grain of sand in it. Love every little leaf, every ray of God’s light. Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will understand the divine mystery in all things.”
-Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
Dear friends,
Thank you for joining us last week for the opening night of the Spiritual Resilience discussions. We had a good turnout and it was wonderful to interact with some of the different communities around the neighborhoods where we live and work.
We hope that you can join us tonight at the Library in Beverly Farms as we continue these Discussions with the Beverly Multi-Faith Coalition
The Beverly Multi-faith Coalition have taken on our idea to gather people to work on the deep “whys” and common positive vision. Beginning tonight, that will be the second of three discussions, on Thursday evenings, at the Bev Farms Library. We’re calling it Spiritual Resilience for Difficult Times.
Last week we pondered on the ideas of Václav Havel, a poet and play-write who became a key figure providing moral and spiritual insights that lead to the opening of the Iron Curtain, about living in the truth, and the power of not playing along. Havel’s ideas are being rediscovered these days, and are poignantly relevant. You can read some of that essay here at this link.
Don’t miss what is happening tonight — April 30, at 7 pm.
Tonight’s discussion will be on the ideas of Howard Thurman, a theologian who deeply influenced MLK, about the strength to love without hating or giving in. This will be led by the chaplain at Endicott College.
In May Rabbi Alison Adler will lead a discussion on the power of wonder, from the ideas of Abraham Joshua Heschel. Pray for these! Come and join us! Spread the word — this is a great way for people to get a feel for what Trinity is about. More below and on our Events Page!
5 Year Anniversary!
Last week we had a lovely time together at the potluck following service. It’s always amazing to see how many families and friends are gathering together in meaningful friendships and conversations. A very special thank you to those who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this happen. We appreciate all you do for our community!
BREAK GROUND 2026 CREATION CARE PROJECT, LENT ALMS GIVING UPDATE!
A heartfelt thanks to all of you who gave towards this year’s project and who participated last week during service as we assembled useful kits for the folks at Anchor Point. Mother Jen shared with us at staff meeting yesterday a number of special moments that happened on Monday as the team from Trinity arrived with kits and buckets and soil. We are excited to see where this journey leads us.
A few updates coming in May and June, a movie night, our Summer Schedule, a Book release and more! Please check below!
Peace,

SUMMER SCHEDULE, SUNDAY MORNINGS 930am AT CROWELL CHAPEL IN MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
We are excited to share that we will be having services on Sunday mornings at Crowell Chapel.
Anchor Bay has been steadily upgrading their building since moving in a few years ago, but it is still a work in progress. You can see the need for fresh paint on the front of the building, at the street, for instance. They had hoped to get AC in the building by this summer, but their schedule changed because they had multiple staff out on maternity-paternity leave (a lovely “problem” to have).
They had already let us know that the building is really not habitable in the afternoons of the summer: it’s just too hot and humid. So once their schedule changed it meant we needed a summer plan again. Which is both an inconvenience and a pattern we’ve always had, in some way: one place in winter, another in summer. We do expect to be back at Anchor Bay in downtown Beverly as we shift into Fall and the weather changes.
It also will allow us to meet on Sunday mornings, which for some of our people is better.
So, here’s the plan:
Trinity North Shore summer services will be held on Sunday mornings, 9:30am, at the Crowell Chapel in MbtS.
We aim to keep services tight as we did last summer in Magnolia.
Summer services will begin on June 7th and run through August.

Hope, Spiritual Resilience for Difficult Times
Thursday April 23, 2026
"Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out."
-Václav Havel
Dear friends,
Quite an exciting few days is kicking off tonight, followed by two special things coming this Saturday at Trinity.
We hope that you can join us tonight at the Library in Beverly Farms as we begin these Discussions with the Beverly Multi-Faith Coalition
We’re trying to do our part in our little corner of the world as Václav Havel did in his. The Beverly Multi-faith Coalition have taken on our idea to gather people to work on the deep “whys” and common positive vision. Beginning tonight, that will be three discussions, on Thursday evenings, at the Bev Farms Library. We’re calling it Spiritual Resilience for Difficult Times.

Havel’s ideas are being rediscovered these days, and are poignantly relevant. You can read a preview here at this link.
That is happening tonight — April 23, at 7 pm.
The next one will be the next week (they are too close together — the Library had unexpected closure that changed our first date, so these two are really too close) and will be on the ideas of Howard Thurman, a theologian who deeply influenced MLK, about the strength to love without hating or giving in.

TRINITY ANNIVERSARY POTLUCK APRIL 25 THIS SATURDAY!
Join us this Saturday April 25 following service for a meal and a potluck of desserts/cookies.
The church will provide Indian food for dinner and you can sign up to bring your favorite desserts/cookies here.
Jane says, “We have tiered cookie trays and large platters. Feel free to bring your desserts/cookies in bakery boxes, Tupperware, or paper bags!”
We are deeply grateful for all that God has done in our community, families, and friends these past years. Thankful for each of you and for the beauty of walking together through so much love, goodness, kindness, and the many difficult challenges we have faced together.
“A Christian congregation is not a glamorous place, not a romantic place... [but] a company of people who are defined by their creation in the image of God, living souls, whether they know it or not..”
-Eugene Peterson, The Pastor- a Memoir

CONTINUING OUR PRAYER FOR PEACE
The past weeks of news continue to be deeply troubling, and also, we are living in the time of God’s work and especially during this Easter Tide season.
We continue to be very aware of the unrest in many of our hearts as the news has impacted many of our families, friends, and neighbors.
One of the things we talked about Saturday was our growing and growing nursery, and how wonderfully challenged we are there because of the great multitude of infants and littles that we have. We need more leaders and servers for nursery especially right now. I am delighted to be able to share that Shana has agreed to be a nursery leader!

We are Working for a Beloved Community
Saturday April 18, 2026
When I was a seminary student I had the opportunity to be in a class with an honored professor and many students of color at the Harvard Divinity School, on the spirituality and theology of the Rev’d Dr MLK, Jr. One of the things that struck me was how King had three slogans he would use over and over in the Civil Rights Movement:
-Those who act for justice have Cosmic Companionship
-The Arc of the Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice
-We are working for a Beloved Community
(continued below)
Dear friends,
We are in a moment, today, that needs no less response than the Civil Rights Movement; indeed, even the achievements of that movement are being threatened and denigrated, openly.
The No Kings events have been important in this time, and yet we also need the vision and the cohesive encouragements that King brought to the Civil Rights Movement. This is where the church and people of faith should lead.
We’re trying to do our part in our little corner of the world. The Beverly Multifaith Coalition have taken on our idea to gather people to work on the deep “whys” and common positive vision. This Spring that will be three discussions, on Thursday evenings, at the Bev Farms Library. We’re calling it Spiritual Resilience for Difficult Times.
I’ll be leading the first, on the ideas of Vaclav Havel, a poet-playwrite who became a key figure providing moral and spiritual insights that lead to the opening of the Iron Curtain, about living in the truth, and the power of not playing along. Havel’s ideas are being rediscovered these days, and are poignantly relevant.
That is coming up soon — April 23, at 7 pm.
The next one will be the next week (they are too close together — the Library had unexpected closure that changed our first date, so these two are really too close) and will be on the ideas of Howard Thurman, a theologian who deeply influenced MLK, about the strength to love without hating or giving in.

Never the Last Thing
Saturday April 4, 2026
Resurrection means the worst thing is never the last thing.
-Frederick Buechner
Dear friends,
HOLY SATURDAY
A meditation from Letters from Leo (Pope Leo)
“Something strange is happening.”
That phrase opens the ancient homily that priests and religious prayed this morning in the Liturgy of the Hours, a text attributed to the early centuries of the Church and often associated with the tradition of St. Augustine.
“Something strange is happening — there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep.”
The King is asleep. God is dead and buried, and the whole cosmos holds its breath.
The homily describes Christ descending to the realm of the dead, not as a defeated man but as a liberator. He finds Adam in the darkness and takes him by the hand. “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.”
The Lord enters death not to condemn but to rescue. Every soul held captive in that darkness walks free because he walked in first.

POWERFUL, GROUNDING, HOPEFUL
Thank you all who have come out the past two nights for these special Holy Week services. They have been deeply powerful, grounding, and hopeful.

Hosanna
Friday March 27, 2026
The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
sitting on a donkey’s colt!”
- John 12.12-15
Dear friends,
This Saturday is the Eve of Palm Sunday. The story is amazing, and the courage of Jesus is remarkable. When he entered the city he chose his vehicle and his moment carefully, as an act of prophetic protest.
Pilate, the Roman governor, and other Roman authorities would Jerusalem at the time of Jewish festivals – the Jews being a rebellious lot, the Romans felt – and do a bit of preventative intimidation. Of all the festivals, Passover would have been the one most important at which to pre-empt, as it commemorated the people’s liberation and exodus from empire, the story that had established them as a nation of their own. More’s the pity, we do not have the episode laid out for us, but it would be consistent with Roman (and general empire) logic and practice that Pilate would have gone full military display: war stallions, flags, armor, infantry, calvary, the Roman eagle. The empire was represented in his person, and not to be trifled with.
Jesus chose to enter in very different way – political protest theater that showed his solidarity with a living earth and her other-than-human children. His vehicle, so to speak, was a donkey, the domestic animal for agrarian work, much humbler than a war horse. Prophecies from of old told that the people’s true king would ride into the city “gentle and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden”, that swords were to be turned into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks, all looking to the peace and healed relationship with creation to be brought about by the true king’s reign.
Jesus was not “just” fulfilling prophecy, as if to check a box to validate himself. The point is that there is a reason the prophecy was what it was. God was inviting the people to renewed communion with the earth, to embrace our creatureliness in trust of the God who gifted it to us, and to live close to the earth and interdependent with other beings to which God has gifted being.
It is a very different vision of the human than our separating ourselves from God’s good creation, very different from the dreams of tech billionaires who want humanity to move beyond any limits. Anti-creation sentiments are not from God; they belong to someone else and are of the anti-Christ.
Not for Jesus! Jesus prefigures his reign in humility, calling us to gratitude and trust and communion with God and the good creation into which God has placed us.
In the story Jesus will soon be paying our debt to both God and the Garden…
Peace,
Tim+

It’s Everybody’s Fight
Friday March 20, 2026
“It’s everybody’s fight. There are too many people who just stand around talking.”
-Viola Liuzzo
-Liuzzo drove from her home in Detroit to Alabama to support the Selma to Montgomery march for voting rights. On March 25 she was shot dead by three Klan members while driving activists between the cities. An FBI informant was involved in her death; J. Edgar Hoover made public defamatory remarks about her to deflect attention.
“Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord.
Hello friends,
A few important things to share with you this week. First, the happy news of a new baby!
NEW BABY
Welcome Aiden O’Brien, born March 16, 11.11 pm, 9 lbs, 11 oz, 22 inches! Sarah, Andrew, and Connor are tired but happy. (pic below)
FOLLOW UP FROM TOWN HALL
March 25, 7:30 pm online
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Town Hall on March 7, and for your attentive presence and love for Jesus and for Trinity. I am writing to share our plans for following up on that meeting.
We know many of you weren’t able to be there, had to leave early, or needed to split responsibilities due to family commitments. We also recognized the importance of giving each agenda item its due rather than hurrying to finish in one night. So, we’re gathering again to bring everyone to the same place and to continue the conversation, this time virtually.
Please join us this coming Wednesday, March 25, at 7:30 pm, for a one-hour online meeting. I realize this is short notice, but with Holy Week and the Easter Octave following soon after, waiting would mean a delay of nearly a month.
The link to the meeting will be posted on our Events page an hour before the meeting next Wednesday. You can easily join from there.
Gratefully, the room has been getting quite full, for those of you without littles, it’s very helpful if you can fill the seats towards the front of the room and leave space towards the back for our young families. Of course there is always plenty of room as we’ve been adding in chairs as needed. Thank you all!
Lots coming up for us at Trinity. Check the HEADERS below…

CONTINUING OUR PRAYER FOR PEACE
The past weeks of news of our country entering another war has been deeply troubling.
One of the things we talked about Saturday was our growing and growing nursery, and how wonderfully challenged we are there because of the great multitude of infants and littles that we have. We need more leaders and servers for nursery especially right now. I am delighted to be able to share that Shana has agreed to be a nursery leader! She is going to be great! So if you feel the heart-tug there, let us know!

Belief in Love
Friday March 13, 2026
“The mystery of the poor is this: That they are Jesus, and what you do for them you do for Him. It is the only way we have of knowing and believing in our love. The mystery of poverty is that by sharing in it, making ourselves poor in giving to others, we increase our knowledge of and belief in love”
-Dorothy Day in The Catholic Worker, April 1, 1964.
Hello dear friends,

The Hour Calls
Friday February 28, 2026
President John Kennedy invited Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Quaker, and Jewish leaders to the White House for a meeting about race in America in the summer of 1963. The day before the meeting, Abraham Joshua Heschel sent him this telegram:
I LOOK FORWARD TO PRIVILEGE OF BEING PRESENT AT MEETING TOMORROW FOUR PM. LIKELIHOOD EXISTS THAT NEGRO PROBLEM WILL BE LIKE THE WEATHER; EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT IT BUT NO BODY DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT. PLEASE DEMAND OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT NOT JUST SOLEMN DECLARATION. WE FORFEIT RIGHT TO WORSHIP GOD AS LONG AS WE [CONTINUE TO] HUMILIATE NEGROS. CHURCH and SYNAGOGUE HAVE FAILED.
[THEY] MUST REPENT. ASK OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO CALL FOR NATIONAL REPENTANCE AND PERSONAL SACRIFICE.… I PROPOSE THAT YOU, MR PRESIDENT, DECLARE STATE OF MORAL EMERGENCY. THE HOUR CALLS FOR MORAL GRANDEUR AND SPIRITUAL AUDACITY.
- I added the bold emphasis. We will talk about this Saturday; think about what is unusual about the bold sentence. Tim+

Three Trillion Trees
Friday February 20, 2026
Three trillion trees.
They came to be
on the third day of creation.
That double-blessed day
of verdant goodness.
Three trillion trees,
one became the wood
upon which the son of God was hung.
A tree created on the third day.
The third day.
The day of three trillion trees.
And on the third day of new creation,
the stone was rolled away.
On the third day,
the gardener walked again in the garden.
On the third day,
the first born emerged from a cocoon called death.
On the third day
a new world was born.
There is the world that was,
and the world to come,
and between those two worlds
is the wood
upon which the son of God was hung.”
― Brian Zahnd, The Wood Between the Worlds: A Poetic Theology of the Cross -
(released February 2024) The Wood Between the Worlds is a 19-essay, Lenten-focused book exploring the crucifixion as a transformative mystery. It reframes the atonement toward a, liberating, cruciform life that unites humanity and challenges violent, corrupt powers.
Hello dear friends,
We had a joyous evening at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feast and a quietly beautiful Ash Wednesday service this week as we have transitioned into the season of Lent. This week we look at a unique story as told by Jesus, and we hope you can join us.

Kneeling in Prayer, a Different Kind of Power
Friday February 13, 2026
Nonviolence names a more subversive response to the spectacular violence unleashed by the armed, masked men in our parks, schools, places of worship, and bus stops. From clergy participating in civil disobedience to the “singing resistance” to boycotts of local corporations, the nonviolence unfolding here is better described as an embodied practice of refusal than an exercise of free speech or one-off demonstrations. Nonviolence interrupts the terror unleashed by the armed, masked men while also revealing that we can live together differently, here and now.
Nonviolence is less a protest than an opening up of another world and an unleashing of a different kind of power.
While they yank people from their cars with their guns drawn, pastors kneel in prayer as they are being detained; while they follow volunteers leaving food shelves, singers hold hands as they shuffle down frozen sidewalks; while they shoot constitutional observers in the back, old ladies stand - sometimes for hours - in Target checkout lines waiting to return their single container of salt.
The armed, masked men clearly communicate terror whereas those who practice nonviolence convey a sense of courage, dignity, and resolve.
Perhaps most importantly, though, nonviolence has interrupted the terror that permeates life here now. It is hard to overstate how scared most of us are. Those of us with citizenship and the skin color and accents that MAGA deems sufficiently American are scared for our brown kin, of course. But we are also scared for ourselves and our children; we do not know how this all ends - for our immigrant neighbors, for our city, for us. We do not know if and when constitutional observation or school patrols or marches will be deemed domestic terrorism. Perhaps we are being paranoid. Perhaps not.
Those who embody nonviolence through civil disobedience, singing, boycotts, and marches have found a way to channel another kind of force amidst the terror. They are able to live in the world as it might be even though they are keenly aware that that world is not yet here. They are not simply protesting peacefully because they believe in the First Amendment. Nor are they merely engaged in symbolic actions. They are saying no to mass deportations with their bodies - with their kneeling, their songs, and their feet.
- Isak Tranvik, a scholar of active nonviolent resistance at Metro State University in St. Paul, Minnesota
Hello dear friends,
We are on cusp of Lent already. I hope you will be able to join us next week for Shrove Tuesday dinner (be sure to sign up to help us plan), at Anchor Bay, and Ash Wednesday service, at the Crowell Chapel in Manchester-by-the-Sea (map and details below).
Lent would also be a great time to give a try at volunteering as a helper in the nursery. We need you! We need basically most everyone to sign up, get church safety clearance, and join the wonder and energy once every so often at a service. If enough of us sign up, then the littles get the attention they need and volunteers are not burned out… It is a beautiful thing, why not give it a shot!?
The Town Hall that got snowed out this past Saturday we have moved to March 7. My apologies that that is a whole month, but it’s a very important meeting and we wanted to pick a time that allowed as many of us to be there as possible.
If you missed the sermon last week, please give it a listen as the story of the Woman Framed for Adultery is an important biblical reference for much of what is happening in our culture and in the church. The sermon is titled, Jesus Stands Alongside a Woman Framed for Adultery.
Have a listen on our Podcast channel or YouTube channel.
A PRAYER FOR PEACE
We continue to be very aware of the unrest in many of our hearts. There are still many in our own community, and in our families have shared how they’ve felt in the light of recent events in Minnesota, Texas, California, and now Maine, and even Boston, Portland, Chicago and more.
A reminder that we are continuing to pray for and stand with our neighbors.
Lots coming up for us at Trinity. Check the HEADERS below…

We will keep the service brief and update and chat about the troubles in the ACNA following the service.

NURSERY HELP!

Thank you for helping families with meals at this time. All meals filled, THANK YOU!!!

Beauty Will Save the World
Friday February 6, 2026
Good Friday was simultaneously the ugliest moment and the most beautiful moment in history. The scapegoating, the mockery, the cruelty, the barbarism, the violence was all ugly. But the ugliness was overcome by the beauty of Jesus forgiving it all. In the collision of human ugliness and divine beauty, beauty wins. Beauty will save the world....
...When the crowd of cruel Pharisees was ready to stone the woman caught in adultery, Jesus didn’t incite a righteous crowd to stone the cruel crowd — that’s how the satan wins. What Jesus did was to break the spell of the mob with a call to individual self-reflection.
“Jesus said to them, ‘Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’ … When they heard it they went away one by one, beginning with the elders.”
...Jesus saved everyone involved through acts of contemplation and forgiveness. This is beautiful. And this is the beauty I want to try to imitate.
~ Brian Zahnd, Beauty Will Save the World.
Dear friends,
This week I have been praying and sitting in John 8, the story of Jesus and the woman framed for adultery. It has been simultaneously sobering and encouraging.
Sobering because the whole episode echoes with the same energy that is on display in our society so often now: woman as object, as device towards some end. A group of men manipulating and lying and expecting everyone to respect them anyway and pretend along.
Encouraging because Jesus is not fooled, does not for a moment play along, and shows the church that a woman is fully human, created in imago Dei, and worthy of dignity. Jesus restores her inner core strength, just as he is longing to do for each of us.
The story is brilliantly told – read it in John John 7: 45- 8:11 before Saturday, and notice who stands where and when and how…
The whole episode is a poignant set-up to our discussion after our service Saturday. The service will be brief, to give us time for our town hall.
Peace to you, each and all,
Tim+

Be Glorified through all the worlds

Dear friends,
Thank you all for joining us for the Blessing of the Animals at Dane Street. It might’ve been one of the most beautiful services we’ve had celebrating Saint Francis. It was a joy to see so many of our families and friends (and furry friends) there by the sea.
We are very much looking forward to this next step in our transition and we hope you will continue to walk and pray together with us through this season.
UPCOMING SERVICES SATURDAY SUNSET VIGIL
As many of you may be aware, since this past mid July we’ve been looking for a transition space to meet through the end of the year. We are very happy that Center Grace Church has graciously offered to share their space with us.
Starting Saturday, October 11, we will be at 4 pm at Center Grace Church in Beverly.
100 Cummings Center Ste 219Q
A few years ago some in our team and I had the opportunity to help Center Grace as they were in the middle of their own transition season moving from place to place as opportunity allowed. It’s been a great joy connecting with Pastor Derek and the team at Center Grace, as they’ve been very kind to us in these past weeks and we are very grateful to have a place to meet through the end of the year.
Where we are going brings a number of special opportunities for us.
- Location: We will be in the Cummings Center in central Beverly. Most of our parish live in Beverly, so we are grateful for the chance to worship together in a more central location.
- Tradition: Historically some traditional churches kept a Saturday sunset/evening service as it relates to the traditional Saturday Easter Vigils where they kept the traditions of anticipating and keeping watch for the coming of Jesus, as we do in Advent and Easter seasons.
- Functionality: Plenty of space for kids and littles in the sanctuary and in multiple classrooms. The set up for our weekly services should be easier than it’s ever been, and being in a space with proper HVAC will be a first for us!!!
- Fellowship and Connecting: this Sunset service gives us another great opportunity to gather together for dinner with family and friends on Saturday evenings following service in nearby downtown Beverly.
If you missed the online meeting a week ago and want to know more, chat with me.
Blessings and peace to you all,
Tim+

The Beauty of Creation
Saturday September 20, 2025
God's pleasure--the beauty creation possesses in his regard--underlies the distinct being of creation, and so beauty is the first and truest word concerning all that appears within being; beauty is the showing of what is; God looked upon what he had wrought and saw that it was good.”
David Bentley Hart, The Beauty of the Infinite: The Aesthetics of Christian Truth
Dear friends,
Thank you for your great feedback and excellent questions during this Creationtide. I’m glad for that! And I am looking forward to our Community Conversation on Wednesday, next week. That’s September 24, 7-8.30 pm. The place is the Beverly Public Library, in a room downstairs: the Barnet Gallery. This will be hybrid, in-person and online. Bring your questions, your reflections, thoughts about how our topics of creationtide reach into your life.

ANNUAL MEETING
We are looking forward to our Annual Meeting, Sunday, September 28 immediately following service. We invite you to take a short time with us for this year’s meeting.
Caring for Creation: A Timely Invitation
A note from Mthr Jen about this week’s message and an opportunity that came up at the same time:
This Sunday, we’ll continue exploring how the gospel restores not only human lives but the whole of Creation—and how Scripture invites us to see the living world around us as participants in God’s story. In connection with this theme, we’re delighted to share that Dr. Doug Tallamy, author of The Nature of Oaks and a leading voice for native gardening, will be speaking in our area Sunday, September 28 in Gloucester. His work highlights how something as simple as planting native species can heal ecosystems and sustain life. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and be inspired.
This event is free but registration is required — register here or learn more about 400 Trees here
CONFIRMATION CLASS
Continues this Sunday.
Continuing after service this Sunday, talking about our Anglican tradition. We’ll be talking about it not in terms of its history or formality or whatever, but as a living spirituality. We’ll be talking about a few things that make it unique, and why they matter.
Class welcome to everyone, whether being confirmed in October or not.
It is More Fun Than You Think
We are scheduled to have Bp Trevor Walters with us on Sunday, October 19.
(Bp Trevor is assisting our diocese. I had the opportunity to spend a few days with him and a small number of others on a retreat several years ago; I enjoyed his presence.)
Confirmation is the sacrament that gets too little credit — to many it feels sort of like maintenance, or checking a box, but in reality it is vibrant and quite exciting… It is about owning the faith and your place in one of the great sacramental traditions (Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox), which itself means a tradition whose spirituality recognizes God present and working in creation, in the everyday aspects of life, present to us all the time. Confirmation also involves the bishop anointing you for a fresh start, and for living into your own calling at a new level.
If you are interested in Confirmation, please join me for a Confirmation Class coming this autumn (mid-September, starting soon!). Feel free to chat with me, ask your questions, etc.
The class last year involved some great questions, discussion, and just a good feeling. We talked about:
The Anglican Way: A Living Spirituality
Scripture: Ancient, Different, Ironic, Practical, Promising, Filling, even Humorous, and More…
Creeds: The Greatest Story, in Concentrate
The Sacraments: What, Why, Why These, How They Heal Us and the World
(Class open to anyone, interested in Confirmation or not.)
Confirmation Class dates:
September 14, 21, 28, and October 5 following Sunday morning service in the Parish Hall.
Blessings and peace to you all,
Tim+

Invitation to Pray Together
A Walk With Stones, Puddles, and Unexpected Hugs
Saturday August 9, 2025
" Brothers, sisters…
I speak to you, especially to those who no longer believe, no longer hope, no longer pray, because they think God has left.
To those who are fed up with scandals, with misused power, with the silence of a Church that sometimes seems more like a palace than a home.
I, too, was angry with God.
I, too, saw good people die, children suffer, grandparents cry without medicine.
And yes… there were days when I prayed and only felt an echo.
But then I discovered something:
God doesn't shout. God whispers.
And sometimes He whispers from the mud, from pain, from a grandmother who feeds you without having anything.
I don't come to offer you perfect faith.
I come to tell you that faith is a walk with stones, puddles, and unexpected hugs.
I'm not asking you to believe in everything.
I'm asking you not to close the door. Give a chance to the God who waits for you without judgment.
I'm just a priest who saw God in the smile of a woman who lost her son... and yet she cooked for others.
That changed me.
So if you're broken, if you don't believe, if you're tired of the lies...
come anyway. With your anger, your doubt, your dirty backpack.
No one here will ask you for a VIP card.
Because this Church, as long as I breathe, will be a home for the homeless, and a rest for the weary.
God doesn't need soldiers.
He needs brothers and sisters.
And you, yes, you...
are one of them."
Robert Prevost (Leo XIV)
Dear friends,
Thank you all for turning out for last week's potluck. It's always a joy to gather together with one another and our friends at Magnolia.
We are very much looking forward to this Sunday morning as we have 2 baptisms! It’s an honor to walk together with you along this path of stones, puddles, and unexpected hugs.
We want to kindly ask that you continue to pray, I will be teaching during their service this week, and look forward to being with them..
An Ask For Prayer
A quick update regarding our space to gather and worship after this lovely Summer by the Sea:
We are continuing to look for a space, and welcome any ideas you have or news about places you may see, or hear about, etc…please forward them to me or anyone on our staff!
And, we have asked Magnolia Congregational if we might continue to be blessed by their generous hospitality, through the winter. They, being congregational, will meet again this Sunday to talk about this and probably to vote on it. I will be teaching during their service this week, and look forward to being with them.
So, join me in prayer for them and for us, regarding this and just overall. We have had some good meetings between some of our leadership and some of theirs.
Just an humble reminder: My core prayer for Trinity and our space is always that Jesus would lead us and put us where we will best be able to live into our calling.
Also, join us on Wednesdays, 12-1, either online together or just praying where you are (joining in spirit), as we pray for the world. So many children and innocents in severe difficulties, and the earth and her creatures suffering as well.
And don’t forget the opportunity to help our Take Them a Meal families!
Blessings and peace to you all,
Tim+
